Kids Born to Older Moms Do Better on Cognitive Tests, Study Finds

The headline on this Slate article caught our eye. According to the piece, "The study, which divided women into age ranges of 25 to 29 and 35 to 39, found that the older women who gave birth in 2000-2002 had children who performed better on tests." The new findings reported in that February 2017 Slate piece contradict research done a few decades ago.

But note that the "authors posit that the children of older mothers performed better because the mothers tended to be wealthier and more educated." While economic opportunity and related factors including race and class play a role in the results, this is still promising news for older parents. We'll keep an eye on updates as the story develops.
